이슬로(Yislow, b.1987)
이슬로는 동화적 상상력과 감정의 결을 회화적으로 직조하며 인간과 자연, 관계의 온기를 탐구하는 작가다. 그의 화면은 현실과 환상의 경계를 넘나들며 유년의 기억과 자연의 생명력, 관계의 따뜻한 감각을 시각적 서사로 풀어낸다. 동물과 식물, 친구와 별, 숲과 정원은 이슬로의 회화 속에서 하나의 ‘감정 생태계’를 이루며 서로 연결된 존재들이 만들어내는 공감과 위로의 장면을 형성한다.
그의 작업은 회화, 디지털 이미지, 일러스트레이션, 공간 설치 등 다양한 매체를 넘나들며 확장된다. 이러한 작업 방식은 순수 미술과 대중적 이미지 문화가 교차하는 지점에서 새로운 시각적 서정성을 만들어내며 동시대 감각과 친밀하게 연결되는 이미지 세계를 구축한다.
이번 전시에서 이슬로는 〈Friends Friends〉 시리즈를 선보인다. 이 작업은 다양한 동화적 캐릭터와 친구들이 함께 등장하는 장면을 통해 관계와 우정의 감각을 형상화하며, 서로 다른 존재들이 공존하는 하나의 감정적 풍경을 만들어낸다. 친구와 동물, 상상적 존재들이 어울리는 장면은 작가가 탐구해온 관계의 따뜻한 감각과 감정의 서사를 보다 직접적으로 드러낸다.
그는 〈Midnight Forest: 별을 찾는 숲〉(더스탠뮤지엄, 판교, 2025), 〈정원이 된 시간〉(넥스트뮤지엄, 서울, 2025), 〈The Present〉(CDA, 서울), 〈SWEET ALONG〉(Stroll Gallery, 홍콩, 2023) 등 국내외에서 개인전을 개최했다. 또한 디즈니, 네이버, 현대카드, 아모레퍼시픽, 국민은행, 무신사, 라인프렌즈, 카카오 등 다양한 브랜드와의 협업을 통해 예술적 이미지와 대중적 시각 문화의 경계를 확장해왔다. 2023년에는 그림책 《나는 아무것도 아니야》를 출간했으며 현재 서울을 기반으로 활동하고 있다.
Yislow (b. 1987)
Yislow is an artist who weaves fairy-tale imagination and emotional textures into painterly compositions, exploring the warmth of relationships between humans, nature, and living beings. Her works move fluidly between reality and fantasy, unfolding childhood memories, the vitality of nature, and the sensibility of human connection into visual narratives. Animals and plants, friends and stars, forests and gardens form what the artist describes as an “emotional ecosystem,” where interconnected beings generate scenes of empathy and quiet consolation.
Her practice spans painting, digital imagery, illustration, and spatial installation. Through this interdisciplinary approach, Yislow constructs a distinct visual lyricism at the intersection of fine art and popular image culture, establishing an image world that resonates closely with contemporary sensibilities.
In this exhibition, Yislow presents the Friends Friends series. These works depict scenes in which various fairy-tale-like characters and companions coexist, visualizing the sensibility of relationships and friendship. By bringing together friends, animals, and imaginary beings, the series creates an emotional landscape of coexistence, more directly revealing her ongoing exploration of warmth, connection, and narrative.
Yislow has held solo exhibitions internationally, including Midnight Forest: The Forest in Search of Stars (The STAN Museum, Pangyo, 2025), Time Becoming a Garden (Next Museum, Seoul, 2025), The Present (CDA, Seoul), and SWEET ALONG (Stroll Gallery, Hong Kong, 2023). She has also collaborated with a wide range of brands—including Disney, Naver, Hyundai Card, Amorepacific, KB Kookmin Bank, Musinsa, LINE FRIENDS, and Kakao—expanding the boundaries between artistic imagery and popular visual culture. In 2023, she published the picture book I Am Nothing, and she is currently based in Seoul.
